Week Roundup
May 18th
What a week — trip to Dubai, the Amir’s passing away and the abrupt days off, the Kuwait election, and then my curse of a car breaks down.
So now I’m car shopping — and considering the new 2008 Altima. Any suggestions? I need something with plenty of room, and plenty of vroom as well.
I originally considered getting a used Denali; but my good friend Slim Shady convinced me to get a new car instead of an old truck. Opinions, suggestions “hey I have wasta at _______” welcome in the comments.
mobile restriction in effect
May 3rd
As of May 1st, the new law — yes, the same one for which you have heard the very bland commercials on radio went into effect. Namely, you cannot use your mobile phone without a headset while driving. This is a Good Thing. as would any law be that would help the traffic situation.
Proving that they were serious; the Ministry of Interior issued 150 violations on the first day of the law coming into effect.
So watch out, stay safe, and buckle up.
Kuwait Election “Process”
Apr 28th
So for a foreigner like myself, the Kuwait election process seems a bit like a circus. At last count, there were 300+ candidates, hoping for 50 seats, across 5 constituencies. That’s not the circus bit; in almost any democracy there are more candidates than seats. The circus bit is how the election “process” is actually taking place, namely:
Giordano Plaza Update
Apr 19th
So it seems that Giordano is just remodeling and not closing shop, as I had previously guessed.
Trip Along The Beach
Apr 19th
It was so lovely outside today — just the right amount of sun; and despite the dust, there were a lot of families enjoying the breeze out by Gulf Road. After my lunch at Applebee’s I decided to walk out a bit (since I pigged out on the dessert — damn you temptation!) and I snapped a few photos along the way.
By the way, Applebee’s has some excellent coffee — I was shocked at the quality and had to get a second helping.
Storm Warning
Apr 17th
In case you have not heard there is an official warning about the weather. Apparently today in the evening (possibly after 5 PM) the weather is supposed to get nasty. Stay in doors and avoid coastal regions. Lets hope its not as bad as the last time. You can keep up with the happenings at q8weather.com.
Pay Your Fines Online
Apr 16th
Recently I noticed that the Ministry of Interior’s website was upgraded to allow payment of fines online. Previously one was just able to view any violations online, but the payment option was disabled. Now it seems they have finally integrated the whole payment workflow.
What tha [bleep] @ Kuwait Weather
Apr 12th
Yesterday — dust storm + 90 km/hr. winds + hail + BEATING DOWN RAIN. I got soaked outside as I was caught in the middle.
Tons of trees uprooted, signboards destroyed, glass shattered.
